Images of India

This CD from the Geographical Association has over 130 photographs from India, each with a caption and location.

They are organised into the following categories; each category has teacher guidance and an activity idea:

• Chembakolli
• Children’s lives
• Culture and heritage
• Food and food production
• Houses and homes
• Landscape and cityscape
• Leisure
• Shopping and services
• Transport
• Weather and climate
• Work

The resource supports teachers in:

• teaching about a locality (such as Chembakolli) in India
• challenging preconceptions and stereotypical views of India
• presenting India as a vast, diverse country, where traditional lifestyles and cultures exist within a modern, technological society.

The suggested activites are appropriate for Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11) but the photos could also be used with younger pupils. An India Map is also available, and there are discounts for joint purchase, and for GA members.
