Issues Series

‘Issues’ is a series of photocopiable resource books which aim to “improve awareness of today’s social issues”. Each one covers a variety of different opinions on the subject in question, drawing information from newspaper reports, magazine articles, journal extracts, academic reports, government surveys and statistics, charity and lobby group literature, and website material.

Six new titles are produced every term, and they provide useful background information for GCSE, A-level and further education courses. Titles relevant to the global dimension include (to name just a few):

• Poverty and Exclusion
• Water Issues
• The Problem of Globalisation
• The Gender Gap
• Climate Change
• Sustainability and the Environment
• The Human Rights Issue
• Transport Trends
• Animal Rights
• Exploited Children
• Energy Matters
• Refugees

For each book in the ‘Issues’ series there is also a 4-page ‘Exploring the Issues’ study guide available. These provide a variety of discussion points and other activities to suit a wide range of ability levels and interests. Tasks are divided into categories: Brainstorm, Study Skills, Moral Dilemmas, Oral, Multi-media, Design, Writing, Statistics and Assignments. Tasks are based on the information and statistics provided in the accompanying Issues title. Tasks in the Assignments section will require further research.

The same publishers also produce the ‘Issues Today’ series, which are aimed at lower secondary students.
