A free online resource from Film Education based on the film Persepolis – a poignant coming-of-age story of a precocious and outspoken young Iranian girl that begins during the Islamic Revolution.

Film Education’s resource offers materials and activities designed to stimulate debate and encourage consideration of the issues raised in the film. Sections include a timeline, offering useful context information for the period including political and social changes that helped to shape the Iran Marjane (the principal character) inhabits. Key scene analysis asks students to consider questions of representation, consequence of action as well as touching on broader issues of citizenship. The distinctive style of the film’s animation is also explored looking at the relationship between directorial intention and the choices made during production.
