Traidcraft for Schools Website

Traidcraft was set up in 1979 as a Christian response to poverty, and combines a trading company and a development charity. The Traidcraft for Schools Website focuses on fair trade, and has a range of free lesson plans, activity ideas and assemblies, as well as Fairtrade Producer stories. The resources are targetted at Key Stages 2 and 3 (ages 7-14) but could also be used by older students.
Lesson plans have been developed for many different subject areas, for example students could create a poster about Fairtrade in Spanish, explore the environmental ‘footprint’ of Fairtrade in Science, or work out the proportions of Fairtrade ingredients in a snack, in Maths. Many of Traidcraft’s fairly traded resources are explored in depth, and students are introduced to the people and companies involved in their production. These include honey and blueberries from Chile, quinoa from Bolivia, raisins from South Africa, rice from India and Thailand and sugar from Malawi and Mauritius.
The website also has background information on becoming a Fairtrade School and buying Fairtrade products.
