Welcome to My World
Exploring the lives of children in Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam

This activity pack is aimed at primary teachers, and explores the day-to-day lives of children in Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam. These real-life accounts are brief (two pages each), and cover issues of migration, poverty, health, environment, and urban and rural living conditions. They also touch upon the socio-economic issues impacting children from poor families or indigenous backgrounds.
In addition the pack includes country profiles and a DVD with short, scenic films (4-6 minutes long) of the four children in their everyday surroundings of school and home.
The bulk of the book lies in its ten detailed activities and lesson plans for Geography, Citizenship and PSHE. These include ideas for generating student discussions on diversity, development issues, and the similarities and differences between their own lives and those of the featured children. The publication also contains curriculum links for England, Scotland and Wales.
While overall a good resource, the pack includes frequent references to the work of Save the Children as well as fundraising ideas that teachers may prefer to exclude.
