This is a handbook to help teachers inform and guide students at Key Stage 2 and 3 about several themes around citizenship education. It incorporates support material for teachers, 24 activities for students, sixteen A4 photo cards and children’s stories from different countries – UK, Uganda, Guatemala, Honduras and India – involving community projects.
The activities also provide information about several domestic issues on citizenship such as school policies and norms, parenthood, rights and responsibilities, crime, racism, work and community responsibilities and rights. However, the photo cards could reinforce stereotypical images of other countries if they are not used carefully in classroom activities.
The activities and photos should be explored across curricular subjects with additional resources to provide further insight into the topics covered.
